Still the Tokina is very good - just dont shoot power lines against the blue sky. I now have the Minolta equivalent G and it has little ca or purple fringing compared to the tokina. Lower contrast at f2.8 than beercan at f4. Some CA at 2.8 visible on power lines etc in viewfinder but 20x24 inch prints don't seem to show anything at all. Some CA but seem worse in viewfinder than in actual images. Sharp pro lens, alternative to the white lenses The wide end is very close in angle-of-view to the Sony 85 F2.8 SAM.īeercan, Minolta primes, Minolta 28-105, tamron 90 macro, Minolta 500 mirror. The Sigma F2.8 EX zooms are better, and neither of those are great lenses. Tokina's old manual focus 70-210 F3.5 (as rebranded by Vivitar Series 1) is a much better lens despite its problems. Optically this lens isn't as good as the cheapest Minolta zooms. This probably indicates damage or at least faulty assembly. The manual focus ring also doesn't fully disengage when pushed forward to the AF setting at the short end of the focus throw. The focus control ring is visibly misaligned with the lens barrel when pulled back to allow manual focus. The focus mechanism sounds and feels horrible. "JAPAN"īuild is typical low tech, overweight Tokina. Tokina borrowed the lens ID from the Minolta 80-200 F2.8 APO. This Pro version seems to be a minor update to their earlier AF 80-200 F2.8 AT-X which is probably based on their earlier manual zoom. The focusing mechanism and perhaps also the optics on this copy are out of alignment. full frame: 12MP 24MP 36MP 42MP 61MPĪ very clean copy with original screw-on hood and rear cap purchased from a large eBay company.
